OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE In a situation when Punjabs CNG filling stations have been observing three days in a week gas load management plan, the Lahore Transport Company (LTC) has hinted that the provincial government is convincing the federal government for constant supply of gas to urban transport sector. Environment friendly transport will be introduced in Lahore. The Punjab government has entered into dialogue with the federal government for the uninterrupted flow of CNG to the buses, said LTC Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan here on Friday. He added that it was the corner stone of urban transport policy to promote CNG fitted transport in the cities. It is worth mentioning here that Shahbaz Sharif led provincial government has planned to bring hundreds of CNG buses in Lahore. In this connection, the Punjab government had asked the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to ensure constant flow of gas for those proposed buses. But a high official of the SNGPL while talking to TheNation said that the Company was not in the position to fulfill the demand of the provincial government regarding continuous supply of gas to the arriving buses. On the other side, the city is facing severe shortages of buses, so the dialogue between the provincial and federal government on the issue has vital importance. Presiding over the LTC BOD meeting, Ahmed Hassan further said that the Company was implementing plan to provide affordable and efficient urban transport system in Lahore. He said that trackers would be installed in all the buses in order to monitor their movement and transparent distribution of operational subsidy, adding electronic ticketing would also be installed in public service transport under phased programme. The LTC Chairman said that the project of air-conditioned coaches from DHA to Secretariat proved successful. The Chairman said that owing to the reforms introduced in the urban transport system by the Punjab Government, multinational and local transport companies were playing vital role in strengthening transport sector of the city. Foton Company dealing in urban transport sector is making huge investment for the provision of air-conditioned buses in Lahore. Under phased programme, 111 buses will be available on the city of Lahore very soon, predicted Ahmed Hassan.
