ISLAMABAD - Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Dr Zafar Qadir has said that recovery and rehabilitation phase in flood-affected areas will be started with the advent of winter season. The assessment team would complete its report till 15 November and 'recovery and rehabilitation phase would be started after it, Chairman NDMA Zafar Qadir told TheNation. Sindh government has chalked out rehabilitation plan for upcoming winter season in affected areas of Sindh. Relief and rehabilitation measures would be taken by timely providing necessary food and other items. Luckily, the affected area is in tropical zone, he said. Sharing the assessment figures, he said that the flood-affected people in Sindh are not more than 5.5million as the earlier assessed figure of above 9million would prove exaggeration after the fresh assessment report being finalized. A team comprising United Nations (UN) and NDMA is analyzing the need assessment after the thorough survey in affected areas of the Sindh,he added. To a question, Zafar Qadir said that it would take more than two weeks to recede flood-water in three districts of Badin, Sanghar, and Mirpur Khas. All possible measures are being taken to recede water from affected areas. To a question about the report of insufficient food items in flood affected areas of Sindh, he ruled out the possibility of insufficient food arrangements, saying that all these reports are basically tactics to get funds. With the advent of winter season blankets, tents, warm clothes have also been arranged for flood affectees, he added. Keeping in view all the aspects including health, shelter, food, education, agriculture, sanitation, water etc arrangements are being made in Sindh, he added. According to the details, over 14 lac ration packs and over three lac tents have been delivered so far in different locations.
