Ashrafi elected Pakistan Ulema Council Majlise Shura chief


LAHORE – Majlis-e-Shura of Pakistan Ulema Council on Sunday unanimously elected Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi as Chairman and Maulana Zahid Mahmood Qasmi as General Secretary.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, newly elected chairman and General Secretary expressed their gratitude to the ulema and pledged to move ahead by highlighting true image of Islam in the world. The Pakistan Ulema Council also made an announcement of celebrating Ashra Farooq-o- Hussain across the country from first Muharram to 10th.
Condemning the fresh escalating wave of sectarian killing in the country, the council expressed great concerns and expressed complete solidarity with the martyred Ulema, students of religious centers and the citizens of Karachi and also demanded of the government take notice of deteriorating law and order situation. The Council urged all the stakeholders to work under their limits as it was the only way out to continue democratic process. The meeting also decides that Ulema conventions would be arranged across the country and first of the series would be held in Islamabad.
