KARACHI: The law enforcement personnel today detained an employee of Lyari General Hospital, on charges of facilitating gang war suspects in Karachi.

According to details, suspect Riaz Babul and two other employees were rounded up on information provided by arrested gang war members.

The suspect used to provide medical treatment to criminals injured during clash with police and paramilitary Rangers.

After interrogation from the suspect, weapons were also confiscated from two different locations in Lyari.

Reportedly, Riaz Babul was accomplice of Noor Mohammed alias Baba Ladla, one of the ring leaders of Karachi’s Lyari gang war.

Baba Ladla was killed during encounter with the security forces last year when he crossing Pak-Iran border near Balochistan.

Karachi operation was launched in September 2013 at a time when incidents of street crime, targeted killing and kidnapping for ransom were at their peak in the metropolis. Since then, there is significant reduction in incidents of violence and terrorism in the metropolis.

During a press briefing in Karachi on Friday, DG ISPR Lt Gen Asim Bajwa said that Rangers personnel apprehended 12210 suspects in more than 7,000 raids, out of which 5989 people were handed over to police in Karachi.

He said there is 69% decline in target killing, 85% in extortion, and incidents of kidnapping for ransom have reduced by 90%.

Bajwa vowed that operation will continue till complete elimination of terrorists. He appealed the citizens to be aware of their surroundings "so as not to become a tool or accessory to these terror bids."
