Neuro surgeon wins laurels

LAHORE - Professor of Neuro Surgery from Pakistan Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has returned after attending International Conference at Federal Centre of Neuro Surgery in Russia where he was given award by Governor of Tyumen Region Vladimir Yakushev.

Other than Dr Khalid Mahmood, Prof Henry Schreuder from Germany, Nicolay Hopfz from Switzerland and Prof Albert Sufianov from Russia were also present.

Talking to the media, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that it was a great honour to represent Pakistan at this highest forum where he delivered lectures and proved to the international faculty that Pakistani doctors were not behind in ability and professional capability.

He said that in his lecture he briefed the participants on the process of removing brain tumors through nose and DBS system, which was quite informative for others. He said that continuous research in the field of medical is imperative and Pakistan’s progress was visible in this field.

He said it was indeed a matter of pride for him that the governor of Tyumen gave him an ivory souvenir and acknowledged his contribution to neuro surgery.

Prof Mahmood said that in Pakistan, especially Punjab, special efforts were made to promote research among doctors and the credit goes to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif who made extraordinary efforts in the health sector and held a road show in the United Kingdom. He said that private and public sectors were taking steps for future doctors who had a long way to go in terms of research in the medical field.
