Army finish first in National Taekwondo

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army secured first position in the Senior Khyrogi and Poomsae (male and female) events of the 12th Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship 2017, which concluded here at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Pakistan Army grabbed first position with 22 gold and 8 silver with 681 points. Wapda secured second position with 7 gold, 16 silver and 6 bronze medals with 454 points while Pakistan Railways finished third taking 3 silver and 17 bronze with 182 points.

In Under-17 Khyrogi (male & female) events, Swat Academy stood first (2 gold and 2 bronze medals with 95 points) and Azmare Academy, Waziristan second (1 gold & 1 silver medal with 25 points. In U14 Khyrogi (male & female) events, Azmare Academy was first (1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals with 43 points) and Blazone Taekwondo Academy was second (2 gold and 1 bronze medals with 34 points).

In U12 Khyrogi (male & female) events, RKS Academy stood first (3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals with 95 points) and Sindh Green Academy was second (2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze with 52 points). In U-8 Khyrogi (male & female) events, Azmare Academy grabbed first position (5 gold, 01 silver and 2 bronze medals with 95 points), while Shaheed Eid Muhammad Notazai took second position (01 gold and 01 silver medals with 25 points).

Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTWF) with the support of Korean Embassy Islamabad organised the championships which lasted for five days. As many as 1200 athletes, 120 coaches and as many as managers, 50 technical officials and 40 national referees participated in the event. It is worth-mentioning here that 10 international referees duly qualified from World Taekwondo Federation (WTWF) conducted the extravaganza. In the history of Pakistan sports, this was the biggest ever competition in which 70 clubs, all provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan, Fata, Islamabad, Army, Wapda, HEC and Railways participated.
