ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party on Wednesday said that the government was indulging in wild accusation against it on the Post-Enumeration Survey.

In a statement, PPP’s Senator Taj Haider said instead of studying the two-page PPP proposals and focusing on the recommendations, the government was attacking the party, which had no relevance to the fair conduct of PES, after the recent census.  “The ministers are using the most derogatory language against [the] PPP in their ‘sincere efforts’ to achieve a so-called consensus. Not once has any objection been raised on the points included in the PPP proposal. We are not sure if the PPP proposals have even been read by the government,” he said.

Haider said the related questions for a fair conduct of PES were: “who should be the third party to conduct the PES? What should be the method and what tools should be used for conducting the PES and weather readjustment of the total counts would be made if the figures obtained in the survey widely differ from those obtained in Census 2017.”

The senator said the institutions were being dragged in an artificial conflict and were being portrayed in an imaginary anti-democratic role.

“Confusion, paranoia and unfounded fears are being widely spread. Despair and despondency have replaced the general trust and hope of the people in the democratic order. No move towards finding a logical correction of the earlier mistakes through internationally-accepted and known scientific methods is being made,” he said.

Haider said the mindset of “hatred” towards PPP remained dominant in the thinking of the government.

“A mindset based on prejudice and hatred can only lead to the forfeiture of the mental capacity for objective analysis and decision making,” he added.

The lawmaker said that there were more than 185 countries, big and small, rich and poor, where population census was conducted in an easy and transparent scientific manner.

“Why should we be allergic to knowledge and wise counsel? Why should we refuse to learn from successes of others? Why instead of objectively correcting our mistakes we should continue to seek solace in the opium of conspiracy theories? Why can’t they realise that notwithstanding its glorious background of democratic struggle, PPP cannot think of postponing even for a single day an election that it is clearly poised to win in every province,” he questioned.

In a separate statement on Wednesday, PPP Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa President Humayun Khan said claimed corruption was widespread in the provincial government and the chief minister and his cabinet were busy in pleasing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan.

Humayun Khan said that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had also failed to complete quorum in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

“Accountability institutions have been locked and corruption continues unchecked. Imran Khan’s claim about education institutions in government sector are false as over a thousand government educational institutions have been closed down in the province,” he said.

Khan claimed that contracts of all natural resources had been given to Jahangir Tareen and all the money was being siphoned to Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence.

“On the one hand, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government is on a deforestation drive and millions of trees have been cut down, and on the other billions have been gulped in the name of tree plantation drive. Imran Khan is a fake individual in every respect,” the PPP provincial president alleged. 

Meanwhile, the former president, Asif Ali Zardari, on Wednesday condoled the death of sister of Rahimdad Khan.

In a condolence message, Asif Ali Zardari expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death.
