Rawalpindi - Scores of Rawal Tehsil Municipal Administration (RTMA) and Turkish company Albayrak employees, including women, on Monday staged a protest rally on the Murree Road against the brutal killing of five sanitary workers in the limits of Police Station Sadiqabad.
The protestors called on the government and police to arrest the killers and bring them to the justice immediately. They also demanded the security for sanitary workers of Albayrak engaged in cleanness in the city.
PML-N leader and Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Nasim and other workers also joined the protestors and pledged to support them in their demands. Protest of sanitary workers on the Murree Road triggered massive a traffic jam creating hardships for commuters and pedestrians.
a large numbers of workers of RTMA and Albayrak Solid Waste Department rallied on Murree Road to condemn the spike of armed attacks against helpless sanitary workers of Albayrak in Sadiqabad and its suburbs. Holding placards and banners mentioning with slogans “Stop killing labourers” and “Arrest the assailants immediately”, the protestors asked the government to enhance security of sanitary workers and to nab the attackers who had claimed lives of five poor workers so far. Some protestors also chanted slogans against police and the other law enforcement agencies for their failure in capturing the assailants.
Presence of protestors on city’s busiest Murree Road caused a massive traffic jam on Murree Road, Liaquat Road, College Road, Raja Bazaar, City Saddr Road, Iqbal Road, Liaquat Bagh, Tipu Road, Rawal Road, Mareer Hassan, Rashid Minhas Road and Saddar.
In a bid to show solidarity with the protestors, Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Nasim also joined the protestors and addressed them. He denounced the massacre of innocent sanitary workers, saying had police held the killers involved in previous attacks on workers, the lives of the two workers would have been saved. He said Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif has taken the notice of series of the deadliest attacks on sanitary workers and constituted a four members JIT to probe the incidents and to arrest the killers. “I am with Albayrak workers and will also go to higher authorities with them for taking up the matter with them,” he said. He said the sanitary workers of Albayrak belonged to minority community are busy in cleaning the city. He said that are highly obliged the sanitary workers for cleaning the city. The police and CTD have begun investigation of the cases and would unveil the hands involved behind the killings of sanitary workers, Sardar Nasim said. After insuring the arrest of killers by Mayor, the sanitary workers dispersed peacefully.
