KARACHI – Various parties of Shias on Friday staged sit-in at Numaish Chowrangi, MA Jinnah Road on Friday evening till indefinite time against what they called ‘Shia genocide’ across the country and in favour of military operation in Karachi.
Thousands of citizens have participated in the sit-in protest, called by Shia Ulema Council at Numaish Chowrangi to condemn the genocide of Shia Muslims in the country and the city as well.
Almost all Shia parties, including Imamia Students Organisation, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), Jafferiya Alliance, Shia Action Committee, Markaz-e-Tanzeem-e-Aza and many others supported and attended the protest.
As per details, after Jumma prayer the protestors had started gathering at the protest point, where dozens of clerics and leaders of various Shia parties were present to receive the convoys of people. In the first phase of the protest, the leaders of various parties have delivered fiery speeches against the perpetrators of terrorist activities in every corner of the country, and warned the government to accept their demands or else they would continue their sit-in.
It is pertinent to mention here that last one year back the same community had staged successful sit-in in front of Sindh Governor House, where thousands of protestors had spent a night with the dead body of Askari Raza, a leader of Shia Action Committee. The successful protest had forced Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan to come out and talked directly to protestors.
These speeches were delivered by Maulana Sadiq Taqvi of MWM, Maulana Nazir Abbas, Maulana Jaffar Subhan, Maulana Hussain Karimi, Allama Mukhtar Imami, and Maulana Mirza Yousuf Hussain.
They said that the government and our law-enforcement agencies had left the whole country on the mercy of the so-called jihadis and Taliban. They condemned the targeted murders of innocent citizens, and said during the last four days five Shia Muslims have been murdered in the megalopolis. “Some miscreants under the shade of the religion are trying to destabilise the country by promoting sectarian and ethnic rift in the country especially in Karachi. Shia scholars and people had played great role in the creation of Pakistan. Now the time has come for us to sacrifice ourselves for the protection of the country, as those who were against the creation of Pakistan are now on the verge to destroy the country,” they said.
