MUZAFFARGARH - Hundreds of farmers under the chair of Pakistan People’s Party MNA Malik Noor Rabbani Khar staged a sit-in and blocked the Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan roads for hours on Friday.
The farmers during the sit-in staged against sugar mills mafia said that the government had failed to give relief to the sugarcane farmers. They claimed that till compensation of farmers, they would keep the roads blocked. There was big line of vehicles on Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan roads.
The MNA said that he had already warned the district administration and the mills administration but they ignored the farmers’ grievances. He said that the sugar mills were buying only two varieties of cane, deducting the cane on net weight and not paying net payment nor giving permission letter for entrance.
The angry farmers said that it was annual income from cane crops but the government did not make policy for them.
Malik Raza Rabbani Khar said that hundreds of vehicles with full of cane were waiting outside the mills and their drivers were on roads in cold season but the mills administrations asked that they will buy cane at Rs158 per 40 kilogrammes.
Former PPP MPA and District president of PPP Engineer Bilal Khar said that they would support the farmers till the acceptance of their demand. Later, the DC said that all the demands of the farmers were just. He said all the varieties of cane would bought and payments will be made in cash.
