Rape survivor’s story censored
The Central Board of Film Censors Tuesday banned Shoaib Mansoor’s much-awaited film ‘Verna’. Scheduled to be released on November 17, the film is based on the story of a rape victim played by Mahira Khan. After super-hit film Bol, Shoaib Mansoor has returned to Pakistan film industry with this expected blockbuster. The movie is banned ‘due to non-issue of censor certificate by the Lahore Censor Board. The story revolves around a rape survivor who struggles for justice in a corrupt system. The trailer shows politicians and other influential people saving the rapist(s). Haroon Shahid is also in lead role. According to Shoaib Mansoor’s press statement, the director has appealed to the CBFC for “the urgent relief of Verna”. Schoolgirl crushed to death
A schoolgirl was crushed to death as a truck hit a motorcycle-rickshaw near the general bus stand in the Lorry Adda police limits. The victim was identified as Momina Bibi, a resident of Chand Chowk. The girl was coming back from school when the accident took place. The police were investigating the incident. Separately, motorcyclist Muhammad Awais was on his way home when a truck smashed into his bike on Ferozpur Road, killing him on the spot. The driver fled while the police impounded the truck. Meanwhile, at least five people were wounded in different road accidents on Tuesday. The injured were shifted hospital. –Staff Reporter
Mother-of-two found hanged
A 32-year-old woman was found hanged at her house in Iqbal Town police precincts on early Tuesday. The police identified the woman as Ayesha, a mother of two children. Her in-laws told the police that Ayesha ended her life by hanging herself with the ceiling fan. They also claimed that the woman took the extreme step after an argument with her husband Imran over domestic dispute. The police shifted the body to the morgue and were investigating the death. –Staff Reporter
Woman dies after falling in drain
A 30-year-old woman died after falling into a drain near Double-Sarkan bust stop in Sanda area on early Tuesday. The body was handed over to the family. While quoting her husband police said the woman was suffering from mental illness. Her husband told the police that he left the house to offer Fajar prayers at a nearby mosque. When he came back, his wife was missing. The resident of Fazal Colony left her house on Tuesday morning. She was walking alongside the road when she suddenly slipped and fell into the drain. Rescue workers managed to pull out the body after hectic efforts. The police were investigating the incident. –Staff Reporter
Robbers shoot man
Gunmen shot at and wounded a 45-year-old man on offering resistance during a road robbery attempt in the Qila Gujjar Singh police area on Tuesday. The victim was named by police as Muhammad Siddique. The man sustained multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Police sources said the bandits also snatched away Rs 45,000 and mobile phones from the victim. The police were investigating the robbery incident with no arrest made yet. –Staff Reporter
UET convocation tomorrow
The 24th convocation of Lahore University of Engineering and Technology will be held on November 16at main auditorium complex of the campus. Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana will be chief guest. Rehearsal will be conducted on 15th. In this regard a meeting chaired by UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid was held to review arrangements. –Staff Reporter
