LAHORE - The Ferozepur Road Traders Association has announced sit-in on Metro Bus route at Chungi Amar Sidhu on April 18 (Friday) for not giving compensation to a large number of traders who have been displaced during the extension project of the road.
A senior representative of the association Bilal Butt said that the Punjab government had demolished shops and markets on both sides of the Ferozepur Road for the construction of flyovers. He said that more than 6,000 traders who were running their business by taking shops on rent have affected in this mega project.
Butt said the government announced compensation to the owners of commercial properties but no step was taken so far to accommodate the tenants.
“Now these traders, their children and women are ready to take to the street to raise their voice to the authorities concerned”, he said, adding that the affected traders and shopkeepers would block the Metro Bus on coming Friday. He said the protest would continue till the acceptance of their demand.
