KARACHI : Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that the provincial department checked 13,000 vehicles and impounded 665 vehicles and recovered Rs5,700,000 tax during four-day road checking campaign launched from December 11.
He informed this while chairing a meeting here on Friday. Secretary Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other officers also attended the meeting.
While briefing the meeting DG Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told that, during campaign 5678 vehicles were checked in Karachi, 2353 in Hyderabad, 2122 in Sukkur, 1148 in Larkana, 1258 in Mirpurkhas, and 665 vehicles were checked in Shaheed Benazirabad. During checking documents of as many 1232 vehicles were confiscated while 665 vehicles were impounded.
Shoaib Siddiqui said that during road checking campaign, Rs. 3387372 was recovered in term of taxes, Rs. 1945997 in head of withholding tax while Rs. 424477 were recovered as fine.
Minister ET&NC Mukesh Kumar Chawla expressing his satisfaction over the performance of the officers and officials during road checking campaign hoped that they would continue their good performance in future as well.
He directed the officers concerned to launch another drive against tax defaulting vehicles soon and deposit maximum tax into national exchequer. Provincial Minister advised owners of the tax defaulting vehicles to deposit due taxes before the next road checking campaign.
