BIEK announces panel for ‘strict marking’ complaints

KARACHI - Prof Inam Ahmed, Chairman, Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi here on Friday announced a fact-finding committee to scrutinise alleged strict marking during part one Intermediate examination (Pre-Engineering), 2017.

According to office order BIE/1146/2017, the five-member committee headed by Prof Saleem Ghauri, Principal of DJ Science College will review the answer copies of complainants and determine the standard of content.

For the purpose, the BIEK Chairman has allowed the committee to also procure assistance of the concerned subject specialists so as to make decisions on absolute merit.

It was emphasized that the committee would ascertain the facts and review the reported grievances of a sizable number of the candidates, their teachers as well as their parents. Affected students have been directed to submit their applications to the Controller Examinations by December 19, through principals of their respective college.

The private candidates with requests related to “improvement of division and benefit cases” have been advised to despatch their applications directly to the office of BIEK’s Chairman. The BIEK has also established a Help Desk at the office of its Controller Examinations. It was, however, claimed that the BIEK as a practice does have an efficient and reliable mechanism for evaluation of answer sheets related to different examinations conducted on annual basis, with little chances of deliberate wrong marking.

A scrutiny committee comprising senior teachers is also in place to address the complaints of candidates holding any doubts about obtained marks, said a BIEK official.
