ISLAMABAD - The Directorate-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized the smuggled vehicle of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s politician Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
Acting upon specific information, the staff of Directorate-General Intelligence and Investigation Customs Rawalpindi intercepted smuggled Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep, Model 2013, and bearing registration plate No BF-9482 having Chassis No. URJ202-4051070, near PSO pump in G-11 Islamabad.
Forensic science laboratory, capital territory police, Islamabad has confirmed that the chassis number of the vehicle is tampered, therefore, it is confirmed that the subject vehicle is smuggled and has not been imported lawfully.
Therefore, the vehicle has been seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act 1969.
An FIR was also lodged against the accused driver Muhammad Imran resident of Multan. As per statement of the arrested driver, the vehicle is owned by Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan. Further investigation is underway.
The value of the seized vehicle including duty and tax is Rs20 million approximately. However, Firdous refused to own the vehicle by saying it belonged to her cousin, which she borrowed.
