Lawyers' movement has achieved its free judiciary target: Ali Kurd

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president, Ali Ahmad Kurd, while announcing the calling off the long march and sit-in, welcomed the re-instatement of all deposed judges including the Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and declared that the lawyers' movement has achieved the target of the independence of judiciary. He said, "We understand from the address of the prime minister that the judiciary is being restored on November 2 position." Following PM address to the nation, addressing a press conference at his residence here, Ali Ahmad Kurd said that all the deposed judges including the CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry have been restored as a result of the struggle of lawyers, political parties, civil society and media. He said that the achievement of the target of lawyers and civil society's movement was apparently difficult, but this became possible for being peaceful. He said that the long march and sit-in has been called off in consultations with colleagues, following the achievement of all targets and the restoration of all deposed judges including Iftikhar Chaudhry. He said that the restoration of free judiciary would pave the way for justice, peace and tranquility in the country. He said that it was lawyers' movement, which had ensured transparent elections in the country, and a powerful parliament came into being, but the lawyers' real target was free judiciary. Therefore, they had announced long march and sit-in. He demanded all missing persons' recovery including those from Balochistan, equal treatment to the provinces and pulling the army back to barracks.
