PML-N activists brutally torture uniformed cop

RAWALPINDI - Local activists of PML-N thrashed a police officer over a petty issue at Ashraf Colony on Dhamial Road, informed police sources here on Tuesday.
The worst kind of torture on a uniformed police officer, that too publicly, had not only earned bad name for ruling party in Punjab but also removed the fear of police from the hearts and minds of criminals living in Dhamial and its surroundings, informed the sources.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Haji Habib-ur-Rehman should come forward to rescue the victim ASI and provide him justice as local leaders of N league had jumped into arena to save the skin of their near and dears, exhorting pressure on the victim to settle the dispute and influencing the doctors to make delay in issuance of medico-legal report (MLR) in a bid to get time to press the victim, the sources insisted.
According to sources, the supporters of PML-N, one of them is cousin of Hayyal based office-bearer of PML-N, were heading towards their home in their black Corolla XLI on May 11, 2012 at 7:30pm when they hit a motorcycle being driven by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ashraf, who was in uniform and going to impart his duty at Police Station (PS) City.
After bumping the car into bike, ASI could not maintain his balance and fell on the road. Within no time, the supporters and ASI started wrangling with each other, however, some passer-bys moved forward and cooled down both the parties.
It might be possible that ASI forgotten the incident but not the PML-N as they set a stage on Dhamial Road on May 12, 2012 at 7:30pm to teach a lesson to the police fficer for raising his head in front of them.
As the group of PML-N supporters saw the ASI coming from his home on bike, they attacked him and started beating him with sticks, kicks and punches. The vagabonds also torn the uniform of the police officer and damaged his motorbike.
Because of such inhuman torture, ASI Ashraf suffered horrific injuries to his skull bone, joint of left hand, with a fracture in his right arm and thumb and he was in severe shock.
Later, ASI moved an application with PS Saddar Bairooni alleging Mubashir, cousin of a Hayyal based local PML-N leader, Tufail and two unknown persons of subjecting him to severe torture and sought legal action against them.
Police moved the injured ASI to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) for medical examination. Though the doctor diagnosed fractures in his right arm, thumb, joint of left hand, skull bone and multiple scratches, yet he has not issued a complete medical report on base of which police would take up a case against the accused. ASI Ashraf, during an interaction with this scribe at BBH, confirmed the incident and requested CM Punjab and IGP Punjab to provide him with justice as the opponents have been pressurising him to settle the dispute.
Talking to TheNation, Addl Station House Officer PS Saddar Bairooni Tariq Gondal said that incident was regrettable as ASI was thrashed even on a petty issue. “The attack is not on ASI Ashraf only rather on the whole police force. No body will be spared while strict action will also be taken against the accused,” he added.  The investigation officer of the case could not be contacted for his comments. Till the filing of the report, no case has been registered against the accused.
