T20 Cup matches rained out again

RAWALPINDI – Both the matches of the National T20 Cup 2017-18 were rained out here on Wednesday. The Pindi Stadium ground staff worked really hard to prepare the pitch for the action despite heavy rain and they succeeded in helping the management to start the first match on scheduled time. Put into bat first, Faisalabad lost two quick wickets with 29 runs on the board. Sahibzada Farhan made unbeaten 14 and Sohaib Maqsood 13. Wahab Riaz and Asif Ali took one wicket each. During the sixth over of the match, heavy rain started again and the umpires signaled to cover the ground and the match was called off. Both the teams were awarded a point each. The second match between Lahore Blues and Karachi White was also called off and both the teams were given one point each.–Staff Reporter

 Nayza tennis reaches quarters stage

LAHORE – The Nayza All-Pakistan Tennis Championship reached quarterfinals stage as pre-quarterfinal matches were decided on second day here at the PLTA grass courts Wednesday. Aqeel Khan outclassed Yousaf Khan 6-2, 6-3, Shahzad Khan crushed Zariab Peerzada 6-0, 6-1, Muzamil Murtaza edged past Shahid Afridi 6-3, 6-3, Muddasir Murtaza thrashed Fayyaz Khan 6-0, 6-2, Heera Ashiq beat Shoaib Khan 6-3, 7-5, Uman Rafiq beat Nouman Aftab of Karachi and former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik beat Ikramullah 6-2, 6-1 to qualify for the quarterfinals. In boys U-18 first round matches, Yousaf Khan, Samad Arejo, Afham, M Shoaib, Ahmed Kamil, Farman Shakeel, Musa Ch, Hafiz Arbab Ali, Nouman Aftab, Azhar Iftikhar and Nalain Abbas won their respective matches and moved into the second round.–Staff Reporter

 Lahore win Railways basketball title

LAHORE - Lahore division routed Multan division 59-38 points in the final to win the Pakistan Railways inter-divisional basketball title here on Wednesday at Railways stadium courts. The winner took early lead against their opponents and maintained it till the end with a rousing display of collective efforts and aggressive moves. Workshop division took the third place in the event. Pakistan Railways Sports Officer Rashid Mahmood Butt was the chief guest on the occasion and gave away the prizes. Meanwhile, two matches were decided on the opening day of the Pakistan Railways inter-division cricket championship here at two different venues. In the first match, PRSB XI beat Sukkur Division by an innings and 94 runs while workshops division outsmarted Railway Police by an innings and one run.–Staff Reporter

 Remington Polo, Edezell score wins

Lahore  - Remington Polo and Edezell chalked out contrastive victories on the second day of Polo in Pink Tournament 2017 here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Wednesday. Remington Polo beat Artema Medical/Black Horse Paints by 6-5½ in the well-contested encounter. Bilal Haye emerged as star of the day as he slammed all the six goals for his team while from the losing side, which had one and half goal handicap advantage, Hamza Mawaz thwarted three goals and Abubakar Siddique one. The early part of the match was dominated by Remington Polo but Hamza Mawaz played turned the tables on his opponents but in the last chukker, Bilal Haye led from the front and banged in a brilliant brace to steer his team to splendid victory. The second match of the day was contested between Edezell and Guard Group, and the ultimate winners were Edezell who outsmarted Guard Group to 8-6 victory. Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana played heroic role in his team’s triumph by pumping in fabulous four goals while Abdul Rehman Monnoo hammered a hat-trick and Atif Yar Tiwana contributed one. From Guard Group, Taimur Mawaz Khan converted three goals while Taimur Ali Malik scored a brace and Samir Malik hit one. Tomorrow (Thursday), Dewa’s Own, Sakuf and Terra Energy will vie against each other under American system at 2:00 pm while Newage will take on Rijas at 3:00 pm.–Staff Reporter
