19 wounded in rival student groups clashes

KARACHI - At least 19 students were injured in two clashes among different student organisations here on Saturday. According to details, the first clash between two student organisations at Dawood Engineering College within the limits of Jamshed Quarter police Station left 13 students wounded. The students of Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) tried to stop a rival group, Jiye Sindh Student Federation (JSSF), student for audio playing on his mobile phone when exchange word turned into violence and both organisations started the use of sticks, roods and weapons. Following the clash some 13 students sustained injures. The injured included Munawar Soomro, Sunni Jhokio, Kamran Laghari, Saqib Jhokio, Ejaz, Nabeel Kamran of Jiye Sindh Student Federation and six students of IJT including Salman, Zeeshan, Rana Omar, Muhammad Ali and Shahid Rashid. Police shifted them to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medical treatment. Heavy contingent of Police and Rangers rushed to the spot. No FIR has been lodged till the filing of this report. Meanwhile, another clash took place between the students of Pukhtoon Students Federation and Imamia Students Organisation in Federal Urdu University within the limits of Aziz Bhatti Police Station. At least ix students were injured in a clash at Gulsahn-e-Iqbal Campus. Activists of the PSF and ISO brawled over some petty issue. They freely used iron rods and clubs. The injured were rushed to a private hospital of area for medical treatment. Police and Rangers rushed to the scene and controlled the situation. The educational activities at the FUUAST were suspended after the incident. The fight started inside the campus but changed university road into a ground of battle. The road was blocked for half an hour. However police and rangers rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. Cause of clash was yet to be ascertained till filing of this report while police were unable to arrest any of the culprits.
