LAHORE - In a major political-cum-administrative development, the government has removed Zafar Qureshi , the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Zafar Qureshi , who is investigating the NICL scam, involving Moonis Elahi, the son of former Punjab chief minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi, has been replaced at a time when the Chaudhrys of Gujrat are getting closer to the PPP, news channels said late Saturday night. The government has transferred Zafar Qureshi and posted Chaudhry Manzoor as Additional DG. Qureshi has been directed to report to the Headquarters, news reports said. However, Qureshi appeared in a TV and said he has not received such orders yet. On Thursday, the Supreme Court admitted three applications moved by PML President and former prime minister ChaudhryShujaat Hussain and Ch Moonis Elahi in which the court was requested to remove FIA additional director general Zafar Qureshi from the NICL scam investigation and rather start investigation against him. These applications had prayed that the main accused in the NICL scam, Habibullah Waraich and family, had deposited all the required amount with the FIA but despite the fact of the recovery, Moonis Elahi, his wife and other family members were being harassed by Qureshi while a probe has been launched into the bank accounts of Moonis Elahi; all of which was uncalled for. Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency had declared Moonis Elahi an accused in the NICL scam.
