Hameed flays PTF's double standards

ISLAMABAD - Former Davis cupper Hameedul Haq flayed Pakistan Tennis Federation on its double standard in selection of players for international competitions. He said that due to the unjust polices of the federation the game had been ruining day by day in the country. He said that the PTF selected the players for Davis Cup Tie after conducting the trails of selected players while they should have held open trails. "The trails were to be conducted open for the selection of the team for the prestigious Davis Cup Tennis Tie but later only selected players were called for the trials," he maintained. Hameed further said that the PTF had exempted Faizan Khurram from the trails when Heera was also equally good player. "There was no merit in any department of the federation. Not a single official of the PTF monitored the junior trails and the trails matches were held without any umpire, ball picker and lineman," he added. He further said that senseless officials of the PTF conducted the trails at clay court as the event would be held on hard surface. "There is a need to take concrete steps to streamline the affairs of the federation. The PTF could not hunt a single talented player who could fill the shoes of Aqeel Khan and Aisamul Haq because they have no future plan for the promotion of game," he lamented. Hameed pointed out that the PTF had to hire the services of former Davis cuppers to train the junior slot. "Asim Shafik may be a suitable candidate for this job. Asim Shafik could not get the berth in the Davis Cup team and had left the trails due to injury and he should be team coach or manager with the junior team," he concluded.
