Iranian police have killed 10 drug traffickers and seized over a tonne of opium in a crackdown in northeastern Iran, a local police official said on Tuesday. "The 10 traffickers were killed in five operations" which took place near the town of Taybad in Khorasan Razavi province close to the Afghan border, he told a foreign news agency on condition of anonymity. Kayhan newspaper reported that police seized over a tonne of narcotics during the operations. In a similar crackdown in late January, police killed another 10 drug traffickers in the same area.
