I met Shaukat Aziz once on the golf course and we had a cup of tea together. He had just then been appointed finance minister of the country by Pervez Musharraf. He looked extremely humble, even a little nervous about his new status. Today I saw him being interviewed by Riz Khan on Al-Jazeera and it was a different Shaukat Aziz. Bloated a lot, both mentally and physically, he sounded unreal and pedantic with his answers. When asked who did he think his mentors were, he seemed a little unprepared and starting with Quaid-e-Azam, named every leader he could think of from four corners of the world. And, then, promptly mentioned his parents too. Hats off to Riz Khan for not reminding him of Pervez Musharraf. This is how a true journalist extracts answers without questioning too much and remaining polite through out. -KHURAM KHAN, Lahore, via e-mail, January 30.
