PESHAWAR - The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday declared the fuel adjustment charges as illegal, ordering Pesco to pay back the consumers the amounts collected in this connection.
A 2-member PHC bench headed by Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard the case pertaining to the fuel adjustment charges. During the proceeding, Justice Dost Muhammad remarked that under which law the fuel adjustment charges have been imposed.
The court was told that the electricity generated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwah is of hydel power; thus imposing of the fuel adjustment charges on the people of the province is illegal and it should be stopped. It was observed that even if any of the electricity transformers goes out of order, the masses are made to pay for its repairing.
After hearing arguments, the court declared that the fuel adjustment charges collected in this connection are illegal, directed Pesco to reimburse the consumers.
