OKARA - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has challenged disqualified premier and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif for majority vote of Pakistan in General Elections 2018.
Addressing a political rally in Okara’s football ground on Sunday, he challenged disqualified premier Nawaz Sharif for the federal power in elections scheduled for mid 2018.
Khan said that PML-N president claimed to run a campaign against the judiciary but a ‘jackal’ could not lead any movement. He rhetorically questioned if Nawaz led a campaign against former dictator Pervez Musharraf after he was jailed during his tenure.
He asserted that his party would strengthen the institutions after assuming federal power.
Khan claimed that farmers were disturbed and agitated over failed policies of the ruling PML-N and they would receive Nawaz by hurling tomatoes at him as a sign of disapproval.
PTI chief claimed that Nawaz was concocting a narrative not for the people of Pakistan but for his interests. He said Nawaz stormed judiciary to save 300 billion rupees, which he looted from Pakistan. PML-N would have upheld the verdict of apex court if it would have been in Nawaz’s favour. Khan mentioned that the ruling party had earlier attacked Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) in past.
Khan said that time had come to defeat ‘dacoits’ of the country.
“The federal government is being led by a ‘puppet’ of Nawaz while his brother is running the government in Punjab,” PTI chief said, adding, that he never understood how railways minister Saad Rafique became a billionnaire after one lucky prize bond.
Khan said that in disqualification reference against him, he provided 60 documents in the judicial proceedings, whereas, Nawaz only presented a Qatari letter to justify his wealth.
“Have you ever run a campaign?” said Imran, mocking the former prime minister.
Imran Khan while directing his statements to Nawaz Sharif, said that corruption is carried out while holding power. “I have never been in power,” said Imran.
“For the last four years, the PTI has been in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ask anyone if I ever set up any factory, took a loan or did nepotism, and if you can prove even one thing I will leave politics,” said Imran.
Condemning the terrorist attack on a church in Quetta on Sunday, the PTI chief asked the participants to guard the rights of minorities.
He said the nation should give equal rights to minorities so that they could have equal participation in the making of new Pakistan.
Earlier, the party chairman arrived at the venue and was seated alongside top PTI leaders, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Aleem Khan, and others on an 80-feet long stage specially set up for the rally.
According to the DPO, a separate enclosure had been set up for women, and rally participants would undergo security checking before entering the venue.
Preparations were also made for helipad at a cricket ground near the rally site. Khan said that no financial wrongdoing was found against Jahangir Tareen and that he was disqualified “only on interpretation of trust deed”.
Khan's convoy attacked
Motorcade of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was attacked as security guards of Ali Musa Gilani, son of former premier Yousaf Raza Gilani allegedly opened fire following a road altercation.
Spokesperson for PTI has claimed that the motorcade was attacked as Khan was traveling to Lahore after addressing a political rally in Okara.
Reportedly, Gilani was aboard a four-wheel-drive bearing registration number AFF-148 whereas the alleged perpetrators who opened fire were traveling in a vehicle registered under MNC-1111.
PTI spokesperson has asserted that a First Information Report (FIR) would be lodged against son of the former PM belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), leaders of which he criticised in his public addresses for alleged corruption and stashing wealth abroad.
Musa Gilani has denied the accusation and claimed that his motorcade was attacked by guards of Imran Khan. He said that he would be addressing a press conference as soon as he reaches Lahore on Sunday night.
