Majid front-runner for PCB TOP slot

ISLAMABAD - Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) has sent three names to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s secretary Nasir Mahmood Khosa for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) interim chairman slot as per Islamabad High Court (IHC) directives.
The inside sources in the IPC have confirmed to this scribe that a note to PM secretary had been sent for final approval of the competent authority. The names include former PCB CEO Majid Khan, famous cricket commentator Chishtee Mujahid and former FBR chief Mumtaz Rizvi.
“Although the list includes three names but in fact there is only one front-runner and that is former Test cricketer Majid Khan, who enjoys lot of respect in cricketing circles for his bold stance,” the sources said.
“The IPC has strongly recommended the name of Majid as Javed Burki enjoys close relations with a high profile personality of the IPC and they play golf together and Majid’s name was finalized during golfing sessions,” the sources added.
But the most interesting thing which can occur in prevailing circumstances that what is going to happen with Pakistan cricket if the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejects Prime Minister’s nominee, as they have clearly given instructions to all the cricket boards that no government interference would be tolerated. If the ICC abides by their rules, then who will represent Pakistan in the ICC’s crucial meeting set to be held later this month?
Only timely intervention of Prime Minister at the highest level can save the day for Pakistan as he can use his good offices to persuade the ICC to allow them an interim set-up for a set time period, which can ease all the fears and at least secure Pakistan cricket team’s immediate future.
