ISLAMABAD - A local court Saturday accepted an application seeking exemption for former President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf from appearing before the court for one day in Ghazi Abdul Rashid murder case.
Accepting the application, Additional and Sessions Judge Wajid Ali Khan directed Ilyas Siddiqui Advocate, counsel for Musharraf, to submit Musharraf’s medical certificate before the court on the next date of hearing.
During the hearing, the complainant Haroon Rashid Ghazi and his counsel Tariq Asad Advocate did not appear before the court. However, central leaders of Shohda Foundation of Pakistan (SFP) along with their lawyer Malik Abdul Haq Advocate appeared before the court.
Musharraf’s counsel submitted an application seeking one day exemption for the former president from appearing before the court on the account of his client’s sickness. He informed the court that his client could not appear before the court since he is ill and admitted in the hospital for medical treatment.
On this, Judge Wajid Ali asked for his medical certificate. Siddiqui replied that he had not the certificate at the moment but he would provide the same on the next hearing.
Therefore, the court accepted his application of exemption and deferred the hearing till February 01.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Ehtsham Ahmad on behalf of SFP filed an application in the court against the life threats and harassment being faced by advocate Tariq Asad and Haroon Rashid Ghazi.
In a three-page application, he stated that Haroon, his counsel Tariq Advocate and their families had been receiving life threats since Musharraf obtained bail in the case. He added that they would not appear before the court until they were not provided security equal to that of Musharraf.
The complainant also expressed the apprehension that Musharraf who was an alleged killer of hundreds of students of Lal Masjid, could also get Haroon and Asad murdered to clear his path.
Therefore, he requested the court that it may direct the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad police to provide adequate security to both of them.
In this connection, the judge issued notices to the SSP Islamabad to submit his reply on February 01 and adjourned the proceedings till the next hearing.
