Contractors threaten protest

PESHAWAR - Khyber Contractors Association Sunday severely criticized the government for allegedly giving all ADP schemes to one contractor under the single tender system and asked it to review this policy otherwise the contractors association will hold sit-in against FATA Secretariat officers.
Addressing press conference here at the Peshawar Press Club, President of Khyber Contractors Association Iqbal Afridi and Vice President Badshah Khan said that the government has started conspiracies against tribal contractors which are not acceptable to tribal contractors. He said that as per the new policy the government will give contract of all ADP schemes through a single tender to a single company which would deprive other contractors of their source of employment.
He added that how is it possible that a single contractor will complete all ADP scheme at a time adding that this process will also lead to backwardness of the area as FATA is already deprive of major ADP schemes.
They said the office of Chief Engineer Fata is neither giving technical sanction of various developmental schemes nor clearing their bills and dues, due to which a number of schemes have been stopped in the tribal agency. Therefore, he urged the government and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to issue directives to the Chief Engineer to give technical approval of uplift schemes in Khyber Agency.
The contractors demanded of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other relevant authorities of Fata to immediate withdraw the decision, otherwise they would boycott the public health division tenders process scheduled for tomorrow.
