LHC moved for case against Rana Sana

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court to seek registration of a criminal case against Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for passing a decree through a public statement to declare former Federal Law Minister, Dr Babar Awan liable to be killed (Wajib-ul Qatal). The petition has been filed by Ansar Mehmood in which Punjab law minister and provincial and federal governments have been impleaded as parties. The petitioner claimed that the law minister by his statement has made a bid to instigate public for murdering the former law minister as well as to create anarchy which is a heinous offence under the Pakistan Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. He submitted that the law minister, who his supposed to be responsible for law and order in the province, gave statement ignoring his position and authority therefore FIR should registered against him. The petitioner said that the statement would damage the image of Pakistan in the international community and also lead to serious consequences inside the country, especially if Dr Babar was hurt some day. Ansar said the statement also damaged the image of lawyers as they never talk of violence but the minister issuing the statement said that he was saying it as a lawyer. He contended that the statement was against Article 9 of the constitution which guarantees right of liberty and life to all citizens. Therefore, it falls under criminal procedure code, he added.
