MULTAN - Punjab Minister for Auqaf Haji Ehsan Uddin Qureshi asked the police on Saturday to launch crackdown on land grabbers to get vacated state lands. He issued the orders while chairing a meeting to review law and order situation in Multan . He pointed out that the qabza mafia had illegally occupied greenbelts, roadsides and graveyards. The roads have shrunk because of illegal occupations. A ruthless action should be launched against qabza mafia on permanent basis to get the city rid of encroachments and make it a model town, he added. Referring to law and order situation, he said that it was the responsibility of district administration and police to crush anti-social elements and protect life and property of citizens. He said that the public representatives would not pressurize police in favour of any one. Now it is the responsibility of police to provide justice to the masses on merit and support the aggrieved, he added. Speaking on this occasion, MNA Rana Mahmoodul Hassan said that the law and order situation in Multan was comparatively better. He welcomed operation against encroachments, but asked the administration not to oppress the innocent people. Addressing the meeting, the commissioner Multan division Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi said that the only way to make the city clear of encroachments was to abolish chit system. Firstly the land grabbers get chit of tehbazari fee, then construct mud shelter and then erect a concrete shop. Finally they become the owner of that land, he told the meeting. Speaking on this occasion, Regional Police Officer Ch Mubarak Athar said that it was responsibility of police to maintain law and order and the force would not flinch from offering any sacrifise for the sake of this mission. He said that the public representatives would also be consulted for forming a peace policy. The DCO Zahid Akhtar Zaman said that maintenance of peace was the top priority of district administration while a permanent campaign was also underway against illegal occupants of land. He said that hundreds of kanals of state land was so far vacated from the land grabbers.
