ANP, MQM-H to join hands for restoring Karachi peace

ISLAMABAD – Awami National Party (ANP) and Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) have decided to join hands for peace in Karachi, reported private TV channels. Both parties also decided to form an alliance.
MQM-H leader Afaq Ahmad told a news conference in Islamabad on Sunday that a delegation of the alliance would also meet Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.
Also addressing the press conference, ANP Senator Zahid Khan disclosed that a number of mafias were operating in the mega city. He ruled out any ethnic tensions in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, ANP Sindh leader Shahi Syed said that he has no links with the extortion mafia.
Several Sindh cities including Karachi were shut down on Saturday to protest against the growing incidents of extortion. All markets were closed and traffic remained off the roads.
The business community also warned that extortion cases have once again rising and if the government does not take action, the situation may worsen.
