KHANEWAL
Urban and rural areas are faced with shortage of potable water as the filtration plants here are not being maintained properly by the Tehsil Municipal Administration.
Public representatives and civil society of the area have demanded that the district administration should address the grievance and take disciplinary action against the TMO and staff.  No maintenance is being carried out at the filtration plants situated at Y-Block of Peoples Colony, T Chowk, Sabzi Mandi, District Bar, Jaswantnagar Chowk and in Old Khanewal. Moreover, the water filtration plants are unhygienic , having no technical staff and no timely monitoring. The worst part is that no one is serious about resolving the matter.
The residents demanded that DCO Muhammad Usman Muazzam should constitute a committees consisting of respectable personalities of those areas where water filtration plants are working to improve the performance and management of these plants.  On the other side, the DCO directed the officers concerned complete the underway development projects within the stipulated time, otherwise strict action will be taken against the officers and the contractors. He was chairing the district development committee meeting held in DCO office. He said that the contractors using the delaying tactic will be blacklisted if they fail to complete the projects up to May 30, 2014. The meeting was attended by ADCH Ashfaq Ahmad, assistant commissioners Mehar Khalid and Amjad Saleem Sargana, DO Saeedullah Hashmi, TMOs and district officers. He warned that stern action will also be initiated against those officers who issue fake completion letter to the contractors for final payment.
