RPO directs for security clearance of office staff

Arrest of cops in kidnapping for ransom case

Rawalpindi - The arrest of two members of Information Technology (IT) Wing of office of Regional Police Officer (RPO), involved in the kidnapping for ransom case shocked the top police boss as he has decided to have security clearances of his staff, reliable sources told The Nation on Monday.
The two IT experts booked in the kidnapping for ransom case were identified as Constable Rashid Ahmed and Tasawar Hussain, sources said.
The Special Branch (SB) has been given the task to carry out secret security clearance of all the staff members working in RPO Office in different sections after the trace of the two involved in kidnapping for ransom, sources added.
A gang of kidnappers comprising five members, including three policemen in the guise of intelligence officials, had abducted a businessman from Hazro and later demanded Rs 10 million from his family for his safe release. Later the businessman was released after getting ransom money of Rs 4 million from the family, sources maintained.
Sources said that this kidnapping put the law enforcement agencies on toes as after the investigation, the police official of ICT was arrested.
During interrogation, he revealed the names of two other police constables Rashid Ahmed and Tasawar Hussain of RPO Office who were accomplices in the kidnapping for ransom. However, the two other accused including an ASI of ICT Police are still at large.
It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab government had already made “security clearances” mandatory for hiring labourers in two development projects being executed by Chinese experts in different parts of the province - one in Choa Syedan Shah in Katas Chakwal and the other one Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur.
The decision to get the security clearance from special branch of labour working at foreign projects was taken at a top-level meeting on law and order.
Now after the arrest of two police constables of Rawalpindi police, RPO has decided to get the security clearance of his staff members from the Special Branch.
