HUJRA SHAH MUQEEM -The dacoit, killed in a shootout yesterday and buried as heirless, was identified as Muhammad Arshad, son of Hanif Arain, a resident of 65/GD, situated in the remit of Chak Bedi Police.
According to police, Arshad was a proclaimed offender and member of an inter-provincial dacoits gang. The police informed that the dead dacoit was wanted in two dozen cases of heinous crimes registered by the Islamabad, Depalpur and Chak Bedi Police. He had fired indiscriminate gunshots on Depalpur Saddr Police SHO Qulb Sajjad a couple of days ago but the officer luckily survived the attack unhurt.
The shootout took place following complaint of a local Yar Muhammad, stating that three unidentified motorcyclists snatched cellphone, bike and cash from him and escaped from the scene. Upon which, the Hujra Shah Muqeem Police SHO led a team to the spot and cordoned off the area. In the meanwhile, three suspects, riding two motorbikes opened indiscriminate firing, which the police retaliated. In the crossfire, one dacoit died on the spot while his two accomplices fled the scene.
