KARACHI - Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar paid a detailed visit to different areas of FB Area on Saturday during which he inspected the construction of a road from People’s Chowrangi to water pump and laying of a sewerage line.

He was accompanied by DMC Central Vice Chairman Shakir Ali, Works Committee Chairman Hassan Naqvi, Parks Committee Chairman Khurram Farhan, union council chairmen and other local government representatives besides senior KMC officers. The mayor, while talking to media on the occasion, said that the budget allocated for Karachi would be used for the people of Karachi, and that he and the local government representatives would monitor the utilisation of funds at the district level so that these could be spent in a transparent and efficient manner.

He said the drive against encroachments was underway in the city. “We will not tolerate any obstacle or hurdle in this connection,” Waseem said, and added, “The pavements were meant for the pedestrians, and therefore I would ask the shopkeepers, hotel and restaurant owners to stay inside their premises and if they have encroached upon the pavements, then remove these themselves in order to avoid any loss.

He said the local government representatives were ensuring speedy completion of development works in the city and would succeed in their endeavours.

The mayor, during his visit, also reviewed the laying of a sewerage line in FB Area. He said that he would also request the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to take necessary measures to minimise the water and sewage problems in different areas of Karachi.

He said that the carpeting and patchwork on roads was also underway alongside the repair and maintenance of sewerage lines, and that this would continue in all areas of the city.
