Meeting demands farmers-friendly policy

Anjuman Kashatkaran Sahiwal chapter President Ch Rehmat Ali has said that agriculture is the backbone of the national economy and urged upon the government to pay attention to the sector by providing subsidy and loans to the farmers with a sustainable system.
He expressed these views during farmers meeting which was held here the other evening.
He urged upon the policy-makers and planners to review the policies towards agriculture development and suggestions of the academia and growers must be viewed in this regard.
Stressing enhanced agricultural production through the provision of better qualities of seeds, he said that appropriate and timely irrigation and proper prices for agricultural products would inevitably result in economic wellbeing. He suggested the government to adopt agricultural friendly policies for the farmers, especially those with small and medium farm holdings and added that steps should be taken to eliminate or at least lessen, corruption, which eats away on nation’s vital.
He said that Indian government was providing all inputs to their farmers on very cheap rates to strengthen agriculture and as result the sector was producing output in very cheap rates as compare to Pakistan.
He said that “It’s widely understood that development of agri-business is key to solving the existing employment and food sustainability challenges the country is still confronted with.” He said that prices of fertilizers and pesticides were skyrocketing but agriculture produces’ rates were kept low. He said that it was great injustice with the farming community.
Ch Rehmat Ali demanded that the prices of agricultural products should be increased in line with dearness in the country.
