LAHORE - The Punjab Health Department will observe Mother and Child Health (MNCH) week in Cholistan from March 21-27.
Chairing a meeting to review arrangements for providing medical cover in Cholistan, Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh Salman Rafiq said that pregnant women would be provided folic acid capsules to save them from anemia while de-worming tablets would be given to children.
Moreover, immunisation of children would also be carried out and special food supplement packets will be distributed among children. For purifying the drinking water, aqua-pura tablets would also be distributed, he added.
Secretary Health Babar Hayat Tarar, Director Health Bahawalpur Division Dr Zaman Khan Niazi, EDO Health Rahim Yar Khan Dr Fayyaz Hassan, EDO Health Bahawalnagar Dr Habibur Rehman, EDO Health Bahawalpur Dr Farhat Abbas and Medical Superintendents of Bahawal Victoria Hospital and civil hospital Bahawalpur were also present in the meeting.
Kh Salman Rafiq directed that pregnant women should also be given injections for prevention of tetanus and other diseases. He said that there was no medical emergency in Cholistan but the department has finalized arrangement for providing best healthcare to the people of the area. The meeting decided to immediately constitute mobile medical teams for the area. These teams would go from village to village to provide medical care to the people. Gynecologists and pediatricians have been included in teams for the treatment of women and children. Secretary Health informed that all vacant posts of doctors and paramedics have been filled in the BHUs and RHCs of Cholistan. PROMOTIONS: The Health department has issued notification regarding promotion of seven Medical Officers (MOs) as Senior Registrars (SRs) in Radiology, Pediatric Surgery, Anesthesia and Dermatology.
Spokesman for the department said that 77 doctors had also been promoted as consultants in various specialties and the notification would be issued within a couple of days.
