LAHORE - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Wednesday and discussed with him matters of mutual interest, situation of the country and political affairs.
The chief minister also hosted a luncheon in honour of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The sources aware of the discussion at the meeting told this scribe the JUI-F chief shared views with the chief minister on the peace talks with Taliban. The two leaders took each other into confidence on the issue. The JUI-F fully supported the peace venture of the PML-N government.
The sources said Maulana Fazl doubted the success of the talks if all the groups which favoured peace, but were neither under the umbrella of TTP nor were they involved in the recent incidents of terror were not associated with the talks’ process.
The matter of engaging Gul Bahadur and other pro-peace groups also came under discussion. The importance of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his role to play in holding a jirga for this purpose also figured in the meeting, they added.
