Trade with India should not be at cost of Pak farmers: Pervaiz

LAHORE - Pakistan Muslim League-Q senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi has said that the rulers may have friendship with India but this should not be done at the cost of interests of Pakistani farmers.
He said that prior to agricultural trade with India, Pakistani farmers should be provided facilities equal to the Indian farmers. He said PML-Q would fully support the farmers in their protest, to save the nation from hunger. He said jangla buses were not needed for the masses.
He said no increase in support price of wheat was enmity towards farmers.
He said this while addressing a grand farmers convention (Kissan Convention) at the Muslim League House on Wednesday.  The convention was largely attended by farmers representatives from all over the Punjab. He said that as the Punjab CM his policies were farmers friendly.
He said he has provided cheap electricity and easy agricultural loans and other facilities. Pervaiz Elahi said that his other works included free distribution of more than 78,000 acres of land among 6,000 families, expansion and rehabilitation of barrages costing billions of rupees, remodelling of irrigation system, construction of 45 small dams, stipends for livestock breeding, establishment of Union Council level and mobile veterinary dispensaries, establishment of Punjab Agriculture Market, increase in punishment for water theft and others.
Appreciating the Kissan Wing office bearers of the party, he said that the present rulers had broken backbone of the farmers by giving anti-farmers policies upon which they were protesting today.

He said Pakistani farmers were neither getting cheap electricity, fertilizer, nor tractor and water up to tail, adding, that they had taken care and looked after interests of the farmers in Punjab from Cholistan to Attock.
