ISLAMABAD-Pakistani players completely dominated the 1st $6000 Yonex-Sunrise Pakistan International Series Badminton Tournament 2016, as they moved into the semifinals of the event after carving out victories against their respective opponents in the quarterfinals played here at Liaqat Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Only one Nepal player managed to set semifinal date in the women’s singles, as Nangsal Tamang of Nepal beat Khizra Rasheed of Pakistan 2-0, winning the match 21-16, 21-14.

In the first mixed doubles quarterfinal, M Irfan Saeed Bhatti/Mehmoona Ameer of Pakistan beat compatriot Anjum Bashir/Ghazal Siddiqui 2-0, 21-15 and 21-17 while Murad Ali/Saba RAsheed beat Azeem Sarwar/Saima Manzoor 2-1, 21-18, 17-21, 21-14 and Anjum Bashir/Amir Saeed beat Murad Ali/Hashir Bashir 2-1, 21-23, 21-17 and 21-18. In men’s doubles, Rizwan Azam/Sulehri Kashif Ali beat Shameer Iftikhar/M Muqeet Tahir 21-8, 21-12, M Attique/Awais Zahid beat Adnan Aziz/Syed Shabbar Ali 2-0, 21-9, 21-10.

In the women’s doubles, Ghazala Siddiqui/Javeria Tahir beat Haneen Alhareb/Basma Chisti 2-0, 21-3 and 21-2, Palwasha Bashir/Saima Manzoor beat Amita Giri/Nangsal Tamang Nepal 2-0, 21-10 and 21-6, Sidra Hameed/Khizra Rasheed beat Saima Akram/Huma Javed 2-0, 21-16, 21-17. In men’s singles, huge upsets were witnessed as Pakistan’s top player Murad Ali was beatn by M Irfan Saeed Bhatti 2-0, 21-19 and 22-20. Another upset was witnessed when Amir Saeed was beaten by Syed Shababr Hussain 2-0, 21-18, 21-14. Rizwan Azam beat Anjum Bashir 2-0, 21-13 and 22-20, M Muqeet Tahir beat Jamil Soban 2-0, 21-17 and 21-14. In women’s singles, Saba Rasheed beat Sara Mohmand 2-0, 21-19 and 21-18, Mahnoor Shahzad beat Saima Manzoor 2-0, 21-12 and 21-5, Nangsal Nepal beat Khizra Rasheed 2-0, 21-16 and 21-14 and Palwasha Bashir beat Sehran Akram 2-0, 21-15 and 21-14.
