ISLAMABAD - Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah yesterday advised the government to appoint senior-most lieutenant generals as the next chief of army staff and Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman, following the pattern adopted by the Supreme Court for the appointment of its chief justice.

Talking to media persons in the parliament house, Khursheed Shah said there should be no doubt about the loyalty of the army officers as all such officers had defended the motherland during their service. He said the most senior lieutenant general after Raheel Sharif should be appointed as Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman and next to him as the army chief. He contended that out-of-turn elevation of Justice Sajjad Ali Shah as the Supreme Court chief justice had created problems, after which the apex court adopted an effective system under which the most senior judge is elevated as its chief justice.

Khursheed Shah said Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan were out to harm the political order. He said PML-N with its bad governance and Imran Khan with his bad opposition were damaging the democratic order in the country.
