A British soldier died Saturday in a firefight in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence in London said. The soldier from the 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment "was killed during an exchange of fire with insurgents in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand province," a statement from the ministry said. He was part of a security cordon providing protection to enable a meeting to take place between local elders and international and Afghan troops when he was killed, becoming the 332nd British fatality in Afghanistan since 2001.
