LHC moved against Ch Nisar

LAHORE - A civil miscellaneous application yesterday was filed in the Lahore High Court challenging appointment of Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan for allegedly disclosing Quetta report and scandalizing judiciary.

Abdullah, a local citizen, had filed the petition and submitted that Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan being interior ministry disclosed the Quetta report and then continuously made judiciary target. He alleged that he was trying to scandalize judiciary. The petitioner prayed the court to order removal of Chaudhary Nisar as Interior Minister.

In another petition against election of Punjab Squash Association, the LHC issued notice to Punjab DG sports and adjourned hearing until Jan 14, 2016.

Dr Rukhsana replaces Dr Uzma as LCWU VC

The Lahore High Court yesterday interpreted its previous order and substituted Dr Uzma Qureshi by Dr Rukhsana Kausar to head Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) as provisional vice-chancellor.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the order observing “temporary appointment of Dr Qureshi as acting VC at LCWU was not brought to the notice of the court earlier.”

“Therefore, in order to maintain consistency, Dr Uzma Qureshi is substituted by Dr Rukhsana Kausar as vice chancellor, Lahore College for Women University,” the CJ ruled.

On Monday, the Lahore High Court had suspended the decision of a single bench regarding appointment of acting vice chancellors at four public sector universities and selected provisional VCs for the varsities as interim measure through the list provided by the Punjab government. The government had filed an appeal against the single bench’s decision.

Earlier, a search committee of Punjab government had proposed the name of Dr Rukhsana Kausar for the said post. The bench observed that substitution of Dr Qureshi has no bearing on her candidature for the post of vice-chancellor. The court adjourned further hearing until January 12, 2017.
