No more corruption, new IG tells police


LAHORE – Haji Muhammad Habibur Rahman, the newly-appointed IG of the Punjab, said on Monday that in line with instructions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, police officers and jawans were ready to fight with terrorists and criminals.
Delivering his first major address to officers, media persons and public representatives at Hafizabad District Police Office, IG Rahman said his main aim was to take “all possible steps” to rid the police department of corruption. He said only true professionals who showed dedication and boldness would be appointed to perform field duty.
The provincial police chief also said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had assigned him the task of ensuring justice to all. “Criminals have no place in Punjab,” the top cop added.
Gujranwala Regional Police Officer Muhammad Ameen Wains, the District Police Officers of Jhang, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Chaniot and Gujrat were also present on this occasion.
The Inspector general of police said that officers who would recover renowned local businessman Muhammad Yameen, kidnapped for Rs500,00,000 as ransom, would be given commendatory certificates and cash reward. He also appealed to the press to cooperate with the police in strengthening their hands to curb crime.
Earlier, on his arrival at the DPO office, a smartly turned out contingent of local police presented him a guard of honour. Later, The IG made a surprise visit of various police stations of Gujranwala. He discussed with RPO Wains the crime and the law and order situation in the division and directed the RPO to adopt all positive measures to make the business hub more secure for the business community and the general public.
The IG also visited Sohdara Police Station and gave cash award of Rs5,000 to an Inspector and Rs2,000 to a Moharrar for their best performance.
