Aisam in Open De Nice Championship doubles semis

LAHORE Pakistanis ace tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi dashed into the semi-final stage of the ATP World Tours Open De Nice Cote DAzur Championship in Nice, France, while playing together with Rohan Bopanna of India. The win has also earned Pakistanis sole tennis representative on ATP World Tour Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi another landmark achievement as he is the first Pakistani tennis player ever to enter the elite top 50 Doubles Players list on ATP World Tour. According to the latest ATP World Tour Double Ranking List he is placed at no. 47 out of a total of 1600 ranked players in the world. Also on 2010 ATP team race list, he together with Rohan Bopanna is placed at no. 18 out of top 100 teams competing for year end doubles title for 2010. The duo played extremely well co-coordinated and high level game in disposing off the no. 1 British team of Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski who had caused a major upset of the Championship by defeating the no. 2 seeds the previous day. On their way to a 6-3, 6-2 win, Aisam and partner hit three aces. Their real strength was outstanding returns on their opponents serves. They managed to set up nine break points on their opponents serves and availed four of them to register a convincing victory over the top rated Brits. They took 55 out of a total of 95 points played while the Brits would secure only 40 points. Earlier in pre-quarter final, Aisam and Bopanna had to work hard to overpower a strong resistance from Rogier Wassen of Holland and Simon Greul of Germany. This was a very tough match in which the Indo-Pak duo came out as winner with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (8/6), 10-5 after a long battle of two hours. In the semi-final they will face Dusan Vemic of Serbia and Leos Friedl of Czech Republic who have come forward after defeating the no. 4 seeds. It is first time ever that a Pakistani tennis player has appeared in such a high grade tournament in Nice.
