ISLAMABAD Dr Abdul Hafiz Sheikh, Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, has been elected unopposed as Senator on the ticket of PPP from Sindh, according to unofficial results. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan would likely to issue the notification in this regard today (Friday) after complete scrutiny of his nomination papers. No candidate contested elections against Hafiz Sheikh for the seat of the Upper House of the Parliament that was vacated by former finance minister, Shaukat Tarin. He had separated himself from the PPP-led Government over differences with it on some issues. The Government has got him elected as Senator to confer upon him the portfolio of Finance Minister. After assuming the charge as finance minister, Dr Hafiz Sheikh would present the budget of next fiscal year in the first week of June. He was the minister for privatisation in the previous regime of Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf.
