Tharparkar: Death toll rises to 112

Mithi- One more infant died of malnutrition in drought-hit Tharparkar district today, bringing the death toll to 112 in 52 days.
Officials said that around 520 children have lost their lives across the famine-affected region over the past 11 months, with more than 300 under treatment in various government-run hospitals.
Relief teams, comprising of medics and other staff, is finding it difficult to reach the distant areas.
The Sindh government claims to have installed over 80 RO plants to turn brackish water into potable water. However, the project has failed to benefit the local people. The actual number of the plants is 73, of them only 49 are functional, compelling the villagers to use toxic water of wells which is spreading many diseases.
