ISLAMABAD -  The Awami Muslim League chief, Sheikh Rashid , while terming Maulana Fazlur Rehman a “fair-weather friend”, said that he would leave Nawaz Sharif anytime since he could not stand with allies in difficult times.

Talking to the media, the AML chief, said that the problems of  disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif was increasing by every passing day and even a big majority of his own party leaders were not supporting his policy of confrontation.

Rashid said that another test for government was awaiting Tuesday when the bill regarding the fate of disqualified person to keep the party portfolio would be taken up by the lower house of the Parliament as private member bill, as the government would unlikely show the strength to block.

The bill placing bar on a disqualified person to hold party portfolio was already passed from the Senate.

A few weeks ago the government managed to get the bill passed from both houses of the Parliament permitting a disqualified person to hold party portfolio.

The amendment in the constitution paved the way for Nawaz Sharif to once again regain the slot of the PML-N president, which he was stripped off following his disqualification as prime minister and member Parliament by the apex court.

The bill undoing the permission to a disqualified person to hold party portfolio was right now pending with the National Assembly, and it was suspected that even a good number of ruling PML-N Parliamentarians would not vote for it, making it difficult for the government to block the legislation from the Lower House.

Rashid said that in case of government’s failure to defend its position in the lower house of the Parliament in case the bill was put to vote then he would move the apex court for further action against the government.

To a question about the changes introduced in the declaration for candidates regarding finality of prophethood of Muhammad (pbuh), Sheikh Rashid said that Law Minister Zahid Hamid and another cabinet member Anusha Rehman were responsible for the alteration and they should be shown the door.

About the protesters, he said that they could be stopped at Lahore from where they had started their journey and held Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah responsible for it.

He said that the Punjab government was responsible for the sit-in at Faiazabad Chowk because they had allowed them to travel here all along from Lahore, and said that they should have stopped somewhere else or the government should resolved the issue by engaging them in serious dialogue.

To a question about Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, he said that actually he was a stooge in the hands of disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who actually was running the governmental affairs.
