PESHAWAR - The militancy-affected tribal families displaced from Khyber Agency on Monday alleged that the teams deployed for surveying damages caused to the houses were demanding bribes from the tribesmen for including them in the survey .

They also rejected the survey process and warned of launching protest movement if the teams did not stop demanding bribes from them.

Speaking at a Press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, scores of temporary displaced persons led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fata leader Iqbal Afridi said that the team of political administration busy in conducting the survey was forcing the people to pay Rs 1 lakh as bribe for registration.

“We expected that as per the announcement of the Federal government, all the TDPs will be sent back to their native areas with provision of basic facilities including ration and financial support but the government is treating us otherwise,” he said, adding, that at least 1,600 people of Khyber Agency were still living in camps at Jalozai.

Afridi said that after registration, each family was given Rs 0.4 million for construction of houses, while Rs 0.1 million was held back by the survey teams . He said that it was sheer injustice with them.

He said that the TDPs had re-launched Tehreek-e-Mutasireen Khyber Agency for rights of militancy-affected people of the agency from November 20, as the Federal government was least interested to resolve their demands, he added.

Afridi further said that the people who had returned to their respective areas were facing numerous problems due to unavailability of drinking water, power supply and health and education facilities for their children.

He also alleged that a political tehsildar was supervising the survey and was directly responsible for the misappropriations, but no action was taken against him despite repeated complaints of the people.

“We want the survey should be carried out on the basis of ground realities to record factual position of the damaged infrastructure, otherwise, the tribesmen would besiege office of the political agent to get their demands accepted”, he said, adding, that people were demanding merger of Fata with KP in order to get rid of the FCR, massive corruption and dictatorship of the political administration.
