Hundreds of patients remain unattended

RAWALPINDI - On the fourth day of young doctors’ strike in Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs) of three teaching hospitals, the patients were witnessed running from pillar to post on Thursday to get medical treatment but no doctor examined them.Despite tall claims, the administrations of District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and Holy Family Hospital (HFH) remained failed in providing medical treatment to hundreds of patients arrived in OPDs or Emergency Departments from far flung areas of the division.Rozina Bibi, a patient at BBH with pain in her stomach, said that she came from Jatli to her examination at the hospital but here no doctor was available. She said that she was informed young doctors were on strike and they were not checking any patient. She appealed to the government and young doctors to take pity on the poor state of patients and call off the strike. A patient at DHQ, whose left arm was fractured, said that if he was able to pay the heavy fees of doctors at private clinics or hospitals then he would not come to government hospitals.Reliable sources in these hospitals told TheNation that scores of patients have been sent back to their homes unattended by the senior doctors and professors. The sources said that the Emergency Departments continued functioning as the administrations of the three allied hospitals called some doctors who were in administration for the treatment of emergency patients.Meanwhile, talking to media men, YDA Punjab Chairman Dr Muhammad Haroon said that the YDA held meetings with Punjab government and the issue would be solved soon as the young doctors were united for the cause.
